The steps nosing are used in conjunction with microcement steps, epoxy resin stairs, or tiles. Sometimes they can be applied directly on the concrete or metal stairs.
Why do stairs need nosings?
Over 100,000 injuries are reported on non-domestic stairs every year, resulting in over 100 deaths. Safety stair edgings are designed to reduce accidents such as slips and trips. These also help to provide an accessible environment to disabled people.
The steps edging can be used as a stick-on PVC nosing or could be provided as an aluminium nosing which is fixed with screws to the steps. They are also used to protect the edges of microcement, resin floor coverings, or tiles from becoming worn or damaged prolonging the life of the flooring.
Stair nosings are used to define the edges of steps in line with guidelines in Approved Document M (ADM) of The Building Regulations 2010 and BS8300:2009+A1:2010.
